Imre Madách's magnum opus, considered a masterpiece of Hungarian literature
and a compulsory school reading, covers the intellectual development of
humankind in 4,133 lines of verse, following the dreamlike journey of the first
human, Adam.
If the dramatic poem were to be performed in its
entirety, simply reciting the text would result in a five-hour long
performance.
However, the creative team of the production has
set the goal to condense and synthesize Madách's extensive work, filled with
philosophical and moral reflections, into a 50-minute performance, presented in
such a way that it can be performed within a classroom setting during a single
lesson.
The large cast, condensed into three main
characters, is represented by actors portraying Adam, Eve, and Lucifer,
succinctly summarizing the plot and philosophical message of the fifteen
scenes.
Like the previous youth projects of the Figura
Studio Theater, the goal of this classroom performance is to bring theater
closer to and familiarize younger generations with its tools, ideally within
their school environment, on a topic that could engage the relevant age group
either as part of the curriculum or in their daily lives.
The approximately
35-minute theater event is followed by a group activity related to the play
during the remaining 15 minutes of the lesson.
