"Turns" – under the
title Figura 40, the company of the Figura Stúdió Theatre in
Gheorgheni opens an exhibition celebrating its forty-year anniversary. This
unconventional retrospective can be viewed on Saturday, December 21, from 17:00
and 19:00 at the “Öntöde” building.
The hybrid theatrical exhibition
aims to showcase the past four decades, the nearly 170 performances, the
festivals organized by the theatre, and the life of the figurative theatre –
blending a traditional exhibition with theatrical elements. The exhibition also
serves as a kind of backstage tour, as visitors will not observe the
performance from the usual perspective, but instead, as they wander through the
corridors of the “Öntöde” building, they can discover the forty-year history of
Figura. In some moments, they may even become part of the whirlwind of scenery,
costumes, and wigs.
The theatre, as a fusion of the
arts, is difficult to present in a traditional exhibition format, so by
incorporating the theatre's technical and artistic attributes, the idea of
showcasing forty years of history becomes more approachable. – said Annabella
Orosz, visual artist and curator of the exhibition. Turns embodies the
symbolism and reality that without a cycle, there is no progress. The
co-curator of the exhibition is Eszter György-Tálas, a member of the theatre
company, but, as usual, this project is also the result of teamwork.
The realization of the Turns
– Figura 40 exhibition's professional program was supported by the
Hungarian Academy of Arts in 2024.
